Dr Nikesh Malik is a Consultant Cardiologist and Interventionalist practising in London and Surrey. He graduated from St George’s Hospital Medical School in London in 2002, achieving a Merit in Clinical Management. He subsequently undertook a postgraduate Interventional Research Fellowship leading to the award of an MD(Res). He specialises in all areas of general cardiology, with particular expertise in coronary angioplasty and stenting, including complex techniques and intravascular imaging.
He sees adult patients with a range of cardiac symptoms, including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, dizzy spells and blackouts. He also investigates and manages patients with cardiac risk factors, including high blood pressure and cholesterol. His particular interest is in the prevention and treatment of coronary heart disease and he performs a high volume of coronary angioplasty and stenting, including complex techniques, such as rotational atherectomy and chronic total occlusions.
Research & Teaching
Dr Malik’s research interests are in the prevention and treatment of coronary stent thrombosis and intravascular imaging and he has completed an MD(Res) thesis in this subject. He has co-ordinated and been a co-investigator for numerous national and international clinical trials and research studies and has published articles in high impact peer reviewed journals, as well as writing several book chapters.
He is involved in teaching medical students from St George’s Hospital Medical School and from overseas and trains cardiology junior doctors and interventional fellows in all aspects of general cardiology and coronary intervention. He is a clinical supervisor to a number of cardiology trainees and the educational supervisor to the cardiology registrar on the firm. He regularly provides educational talks to GPs and training sessions for general medical and cardiology colleagues. He has organised and taught on numerous training courses for cardiology trainees and consultant colleagues.
My experience with Dr Malik is the best. Meeting me he immediately put me at ease. He has a kind mannerism which immediately put me at ease. His professionalism , explanations and mannerism gave me the confidence and trust in his abilities. In the surgical unit he was amazing and truly top of his profession. I cannot thank him enough and am so lucky that I have been able to engage his service. His secretary Karen is also amazing and works all hours to ensure patients are updated etc. Dr Malik is the best and meets and exceeds the highest rating possible .
